What are special assessment conditions
Special assessment conditions give students with particular learning needs access to the conditions they need to help them complete formal assessments.
Using assistive technology for formal assessments may be appropriate for students in some circumstances. For example, using a laptop may be appropriate for an assessment of science conceptual understanding but not for an assessment to test the ability to write with a pen.
New Zealand Qualifications Authority is responsible for ensuring special assessment conditions are granted appropriately. To ensure that assistive technology use is appropriate in formal school assessments such as NCEA, an application must be made for the student to have special assessment conditions.
Apply for special assessment conditions
Schools must apply directly to New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) on behalf of students. You will need to apply each year, prior to the start of any assessments in order for them to be able to use their assistive technology for assessments.
