Application timeline
Applications for teacher specific allowances must be received by the last Friday of November so they can be included in the current staffing year.
Applications for the upcoming staffing year may not be processed in time to be used for the balancing period.
The allowances are provided as additional non-permanent staffing.
If teachers are employed from the bulk grant, school boards are liable for any allowances they receive.
We regularly monitor the allowances for teachers. Allowances are withdrawn if the teacher no longer meets eligibility criteria. This is backdated to the date they stopped being eligible.
When the allowance is provided
The allowance is provided from the date at which the teacher's application for an allowance was approved. It is backdated only within the current staffing year.
For example:
- A teacher became eligible in January.
- Their school applied in March.
- Backdated to January once staffing was approved.
