Board responsibilities
A school board must manage staffing in a responsible way. If staffing entitlement is likely to reduce, it must plan for this and make appropriate employment decisions.
If teachers are declared surplus, the board may be liable for the resulting cost if it didn't follow the correct process.
The board needs to record minutes of all decisions it makes about new appointments.
How your March roll can affect permanent appointments
We publish entitlement staffing twice a year in Pourato:
- Provisional entitlement staffing is published in September. This is your minimum staffing for the next year.
- Confirmed entitlement staffing is published by 1 April. This is based on your actual roll number on 1 March.
If confirmed entitlement staffing is less than provisional entitlement by 1.00 full-time teacher equivalent (FTTE) or more and you make a new permanent appointment in excess of the confirmed entitlement staffing, you need to tell us.
If confirmed entitlement staffing is less than provisional entitlement by between 0.10 FTTE and 1.00 FTTE, you need to do an environmental scan before making a new permanent appointment. This is when you gather information about things that might affect your school’s roll now and in the next year.
You can see the provisional and confirmed entitlement staffing FTTEs in Pourato. Click the link in the banner in the Staffing Entitlement view.
