About the scholarships

Ngarimu scholarships are funded by the Ngarimu VC and 28th (Māori) Battalion Memorial Scholarship Fund Board. The board was established in 1945 by the Ngarimu VC and 28th (Māori) Battalion Memorial Scholarship Fund Act 1945 (the Act).

The board was set up to promote the study of and encourage the maintenance of:

  • te reo Māori | Māori language
  • Māori history
  • Māori tradition
  • Māori culture.

The board awards scholarships annually to exceptional Māori students for vocational or tertiary study. They are for students who demonstrate characteristics that align with the values of the 28th Māori Battalion.
