Curricula and NCEA change support for ITE
We have been working with leads in initial teacher education (ITE) to build stronger connections and provide opportunities to engage on curricula and NCEA changes.
What is happening
Since 2021, we have worked with initial teacher education (ITE) leads to provide better ongoing support for teacher education students.
A part of that work is the ongoing series of hui for teacher educators. These are being run between 2022-2025 and cover the most relevant, up-to-date information about important curriculum, NCEA and government priorities.
It includes:
- the refresh of The New Zealand Curriculum
- the redesign of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa
- Te Whāriki a te Kōhanga Reo
- changes to NCEA
- the knowledge and skills that schools must cover each year in reading, writing, maths and science.
The ITE leads include:
- New Zealand Council of Education Deans
- Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand(external link)
- Teacher Education Forum of Aotearoa New Zealand (TEFANZ)(external link).
These forums have provided updates on:
- Te Marautanga o Aotearoa
- Te Whāriki a te Kōhanga Reo
- Te Whāriki: He Whāriki mātauranga mō ngā mokopuna o Aotearoa Early childhood curriculum
- Te Mātaiaho | the refreshed NZ curriculum
- NCEA changes.
