About the scholarships

Tagaloa scholarships support Pacific student achievement in tertiary institutions.

The scholarships are part of our broader Talanoa Ako response to the Pacific PowerUP evaluations (2016–2019). Through these evaluations, Pacific communities highlighted the need to grow Pacific capacity and capability within both the education sector and local communities.

The scholarships are offered for your final year of academic study.

There are 2 Tagaloa scholarships available each year:

  • 1 master's scholarship worth $10,000
  • 1 doctoral scholarship worth $14,000.

Who can apply

You can apply if you are:

  • a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • of indigenous Pacific cultural heritage
  • in your last year of full-time post-graduate study in the 2025 academic year
  • enrolled or in the process of enrolling into a full-time master's or doctoral programme.
