What we provide funding for

Schools and kura must use pay equity funding to apply the pay equity outcomes and new pay rates.

We provide funding for employees covered by the settlement who are on a relevant payroll designation code in EdPay. If your school or kura does not pay covered employees through EdPay, we will contact you for information so we can calculate your funding.

Tiaki allowance funding, formally the dirty work allowance, is provided where employees are either on the occasional or frequent Tiaki allowance.

Current settlements

We currently provide funding for the following pay equity settlements:

• teacher aides' settlement
• administration support staff in schools' settlement
• kaiārahi i te reo settlement
• librarians and library assistants' settlement
• science technicians' settlement.

How we calculate settlement funding

We use the previous year's payroll data to calculate an estimate of the funding to provide. For schools and kura that open during the year, we base estimates on an existing school or kura of a similar type.

To work out a funding estimate for each employee we:

• take their new pay equity hourly rate and subtract their pre-settlement hourly rate from it, then
• multiply this total by the number of hours they worked.

Wash-up adjustment

When we get the confirmed payroll data for the year, we check how accurate our estimates were and if we need to make a funding adjustment. We will let you know if we are going to apply a wash-up adjustment to one of your funding instalments. It can increase or decrease entitlement.

Pay equity funding instalment schedule

We pay estimated settlement funding instalments on:

• 1 January for quarter 1
• 1 April for quarter 2
• 1 July for quarter 3
• 1 October for quarter 4

Before you receive an instalment, you will get a funding letter via the Secure Data Portal. This breaks down the upcoming funding payment by agreement type.

We cannot provide a breakdown for each of your staff members.
