About our weathertightness standards
Contractors and suppliers must follow the New Zealand Building Code and also meet our school-specific durability requirements, including:
- increased roof pitch (slope)
- additional drained and ventilated wall cavity requirements
- specific spouting requirements
- increased cladding durability.
When the design requirements apply
The weathertightness design requirements apply to all new state school buildings, including:
- building replacements
- extensions and additions to an existing building
- alterations to the outside of an existing building, like a roof or wall cladding.
