About our weathertightness standards

Contractors and suppliers must follow the New Zealand Building Code and also meet our school-specific durability requirements, including:

  • increased roof pitch (slope)
  • additional drained and ventilated wall cavity requirements
  • specific spouting requirements
  • increased cladding durability.

When the design requirements apply

The weathertightness design requirements apply to all new state school buildings, including:

  • building replacements
  • extensions and additions to an existing building
  • alterations to the outside of an existing building, like a roof or wall cladding.
