South Dunedin schooling
In 2010 the then Minister of Education agreed to the Ministry re-engaging with the South Dunedin community and stakeholders about the future of education in the area.
About the consultation
Discussions about the future of schooling in the area had taken place several times before. Schools in South Dunedin were experiencing consistent roll decline and in 2010 rolls in the 6 schools showed a 24.5% decline in students since 2000. This was a reflection of the general population decline in the area.
Following consultation, the Minister agreed to 2 mergers, which were implemented from the start of 2012.
Two schools merged to form Bathgate Park School.
Three schools merged to form Carisbrook School.
