Awards for gifted learners
Awards for gifted learners are designed to challenge and extend students in an area of interest relating to their gift that will positively impact their learning.
The awards fund an activity or project for up to 12 months. This is a way for students to access opportunities that they may otherwise have difficulty accessing or paying for.
The awards are open to children and young people of any age, from early learning until they leave school.
Awards for Gifted Learners
Applications for awards for gifted learners open early September each year.
More information about the awards and an online application form is on Te Kete Ipurangi (TKI).

Events and opportunities
Activities, experiences and events are held around New Zealand for gifted ākonga of all ages to take part in outside of school. These could be digital challenges, competitions such as chess, or leadership events.
The events are run by different organisations and some are funded by us. They vary across regions.
Some of these events and opportunities are listed on TKI, where you can also find information about how your child can participate.

Targeted Additional Supports
Targeted Additional Supports are learning experiences in addition to regular class learning for gifted children and young people. At these events, your child will be with likeminded peers to challenge and extend their learning. They are held by different providers.

Learning opportunities through Te Kura
Your child may be eligible to enrol in some courses through Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu, New Zealand's distance learning school. Te Kura has a pathway for gifted ākonga who are not able to access the learning opportunities they need at their normal school. Enrolling in both is called dual tuition. If your child meets eligibility criteria to enrol, their courses are funded by us.
