What is Kia Manawaroa?

Kia Manawaroa is the Ministry’s dedicated pānui for whānau Māori.

It is sent fortnightly via email over the school term to a growing audience of subscribers, published to this website, and shared via the Ministry’s social media channels.

Kia Manawaroa is about:

  • Opportunities, changes, and milestones in education.
  • Celebrating Māori success as Māori.
  • Promoting and normalising te reo Māori.

We keep an eye on a range of channels so we can offer timely and accurate info about news and updates in the education space.

We usually tie these updates into our regular pānui. But if there's something urgent for whānau to know about, we'll write a special issue.

  • We talk to whānau, not about whānau.
  • We write in a helpful and friendly style and avoid sector-centric language.
  • We are clear about the call to action - how can whānau contribute or be involved?
  • We keep it short and sweet - articles should be 200 words maximum.
  • Articles should always have at least one photo, image, or video – with captions.
