What the support service provides

Free holistic service

The wellbeing support service provides a holistic service for claimants who are engaging in the Ministry’s sensitive claims process. It is a free service that is voluntary for current claimants and their whānau.

Practical support

The wellbeing support service is able to help you with things you would like to improve in your life right now. It is a way to get support while you are waiting for your claim to be processed.

Support if you need it

The wellbeing support service is not part of your claim assessment. You don’t have to access the wellbeing service, and it is separate to your claim.

Types of supports we can offer

We will be flexible with the types of services we provide and anticipate they could include things such as:

  • tattoo removal
  • literacy support
  • childcare or access to education for children
  • budget support
  • health care, including mental health
  • specialist counselling services and peer support organisations
  • help to rebuild whānau, iwi or hapū connections
  • rongoā Māori
  • support with job seeking.

Counselling sessions

We can also pay for you to access up to 6 counselling sessions while you go through our process.

You do not have to use these sessions all at once. You are welcome to choose which counsellor to see and we will pay them directly. If you are interested in accessing counselling, let us know.

Accessing this service

You must live in New Zealand to access the wellbeing support service.

We are unable to provide the wellbeing support service to people who are in prison. If you are in prison and would like to discuss wellbeing support, get in touch with us and we will look at other ways we might be able to help.
