Teacher-only day coming up soon

There are a number of significant changes taking place across our education system to make sure every child and young person receives a world-class education.

To help ensure your child’s school is ready to implement these changes, schools and kura have been allocated 4 teacher-only days (2 last year and 2 in 2024). These give schools and kura time to plan, prepare, and implement the changes that will help your young person do well at school.

Schools get to choose the exact date of their teacher-only days with the next one falling between Monday 21 October and Friday 15 November 2024.

During this teacher-only day, school leaders and teachers will be preparing to implement changes to the national curriculum. This includes making the necessary shifts to lift pānui | reading, tuhituhi | writing and pāngarau | maths, so all children and young people are able to master the basics and gain the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life.
