Reliable platform and refreshed content
Education.govt.nz is our main website for sharing information about New Zealand’s education system. Up to 10,000 people visit the website each day, and it gets around 180,000 page views a week.
The previous Ministry website was almost 9 years old and vulnerable to technical issues. It reached the end of its shelf life.
Replacing the website gave us the chance to prioritise audience needs and make the site more user-friendly.
What to expect on the website
While the URL is still education.govt.nz, we have upgraded and consolidated content, structure and layout.
On the upgraded website you will find:
- an enhanced search function with the ability to filter content by topic
- the option to select an audience group, to see the most relevant content
- te reo Māori translations of navigation labels and content headings
- quick-read articles
- less content to navigate, with clearer structure.
Informed by audience research
The layout and content are informed by research from key audience groups. This included learners, whānau, parents, educators and education agencies.
We heard that:
- education.govt.nz is their ‘top spot’ for education information – they’d like to access everything from this website
- they want content to be easy to find
- they want practical content, relevant information presented in quick-read articles that are easy to scan and digest.
How to find what you are looking for
To find what you’re looking for either use the enhanced search tool or use the navigation and search by the type of visitor you are i.e. education professionals, parents and caregivers or suppliers and providers.
We have focused on publishing articles about the most popular topics, along with information that must be complied with (labelled ‘Compliance: Required’ at the top of the page) and are legally required to publish. Overtime, we will continue to add and refine content.
