Pacific Education Innovation Fund launched

The Pacific Education Innovation Fund is a new fund open to educators, early learning services, schools, tertiary providers and community groups throughout Aotearoa to apply to support innovative practices that respond to the curriculum and wellbeing needs of Pacific learners.

In 2020, the Innovation Fund has $6 million available to applicants. Some $3.5m of this will support projects to develop innovative practices to meet the wellbeing and curriculum needs of Pacific learners. A further $2.5m is available for projects specifically targeted at innovative practices in Pacific bilingual and immersion education in early learning services and schools.

The Ministry of Education is seeking applications for the 2020 Innovation Fund between 23 September and 6 November. Individuals, groups or representatives from an education provider in the early learning, schooling or tertiary sector, researchers or academics, providers and community organisations from across New Zealand are encouraged to apply.

We are looking for creative and collaborative projects that deliver education for Pacific learners and families in new and different ways, including:

  • unique and specialised Pacific teaching and learning models for Pacific learners and families to implement or scale up
  • creating or expanding unique curriculum resources for groups of Pacific learners and families; and
  • programmes or projects that meet unmet education and wellbeing needs by Pacific for Pacific.

A total of $28.5 million in funding, over four years, has been set aside for the Pacific Education Innovation Fund, as part of an $80.2m investment in Pacific Education through the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund. This investment supports the Action Plan for Pacific Education 2020-2030.
