Procurement principles

We apply the principles of government procurement and the government’s standards of good practice to all procurement activity.

The principles of government procurement are:

  • plan and manage for great results
  • be fair to all suppliers
  • get the right supplier
  • get the best deal for everyone
  • play by the rules.

More information on these principles can be found on the NZ Government Procurement website.

New contract opportunities

Current opportunities

We advertise our current provider opportunities (open tenders) on the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS).

Contract opportunities – GETS(external link)

You can register with GETS to see the latest government tenders. Once you are registered on GETS as a supplier (provider of goods and/or services) you can view detailed information, access documents and receive notifications of relevant opportunities. There is no cost to register or use GETS.

Future opportunities

Each year we publish an annual procurement plan on the NZ Government Procurement website. The annual procurement plan is a forecast of expected procurements that can provide advanced notice of potential contract opportunities.

Annual procurement plans are completed at a point in time and are subject to revision and cancellation at any time.

Providing learning resources to schools

Opportunities to produce Ministry-funded learning resources or to be a part of supplier panels to produce these resources are advertised on the Government Electronic Tender service GETS.

The Ministry is not able to endorse learning products other than those procured and contracted through this tendering process.

Individual New Zealand schools and Communities of Learning are able to make independent choices about which additional learning resources they purchase to support their students’ education. Suppliers are able to approach schools directly to promote their learning resources. A full list of schools is available on the Education Counts website.
