Cabinet Paper: Funding education initiatives using headroom and underspends in Vote Tertiary Education

On Wednesday 27 June 2018, the Minister of Education announced(external link) that the Government will invest $31.7 million a year to help maintain the quality of tertiary education, and provided an update on the first four months of Fees-Free tertiary education and training.  

The Minister also announced:

The Minister and Associate Minister of Education, Hon Tracey Martin have announced(external link) the establishment of a fund of up to $1 million in 2018/19 for providers of computers in homes programmes.

Student Achievement Component level 1 and 2 programme funding rates

On Thursday 28 June 2018, the Minister of Education announced(external link) increases to a number of funding rates for tertiary education programmes at qualification levels 1 and 2.  The papers considered by the Minister when making these decisions are available below.
