Draft content available for review

Building on the foundational areas finalised late last year, draft content for Years 7-13 Te Reo Rangatira and Years 9-13 maths and Pāngarau is available now for review until Monday 28 April. Consultation on the English learning area for Years 7-13 will begin in February.

Sector feedback is strongly encouraged. These consultations present an important opportunity for teachers, kaiako, principals and tumuaki to help shape learning content that is internationally comparable, relevant and fit for purpose.

What happens next

The Minister of Education will gazette the final full Years 0-13 English, Te Reo Rangatira, maths and Pāngarau curricula at the end of 2025 for required use in 2026. Once the full curriculum is gazetted in 2026 and required for use from 2027, the Government intends to move into a regular update cycle for the curriculum, as occurs in other jurisdictions, to avoid the need for wholesale reform.
