Scholarships we offer

We offer scholarships for the following qualifications:

Information

Key dates

Applications open 1 March each year.

Applications close 24 April each year.

Applicants notified 31 May each year.

We do not accept late applications.

Who can apply

To be eligible for these scholarships, you must:

  • be accepted onto one of the relevant approved programmes of study
  • be enrolled to study full-time
  • be interested in working in the education sector as a speech language therapist, New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) interpreter or NZSL tutor
  • be a New Zealand citizen or have rights to reside and work in New Zealand indefinitely or permanently
  • not be repeating a failed course.

Your application must disclose any convictions you have had unless they are covered by the Criminal Records (Clean Slate Act) 2004.

Conditions of the scholarship

If you are granted one of these scholarships, you must meet certain conditions.

You must:

  • enrol in your courses at the university
  • plan your study and workload for the year
  • pass your course papers
  • email us if any of the information you provided in your application changes (this includes your contact details, if you fail any papers and if you change your proposed study)
  • email us if you are appointed to a position within the Ministry after you graduate.

Your letter of offer will have the terms for your scholarship.

Priority for some applicants

We will give priority to applicants who speak a language in addition to English that is widely used by children attending early childhood services and schools in New Zealand.

Withdrawing from or failing a paper or course

You must let your university and us know that you want to withdraw.

We don't defer scholarships. If you decide not to start the course after you have enrolled, you must re-apply for a scholarship in the following year. You may also be required to repay funds if payments have already been made.

If you fail a paper, you will need to re-sit and pass the paper before you receive your payment.
