About SchoolDNS

A domain name is your website’s address on the internet, for example www.example.school.nz. A domain name registration service helps you register this name, making it easy for people to visit your website.

The school domain name registration service (SchoolDNS) offers a free ‘.school.nz’ domain name registration and hosting service for state and state-integrated schools and kura.

Benefits of joining SchoolDNS include:

  • free set up and running costs for up to 2 domain names, including subdomains – costs for any more than 2 need to be covered by the school
  • optional domain name system (DNS) hosting
  • access to the DNS portal to manage things like account changes
  • help to set up email security (such as SPF and DMARC) to prevent your emails from being marked as spam
  • reduced administration risks, especially during staff turnover
  • 24/7 support based in New Zealand
  • registration automatically renewed each year, ensuring continuity and reducing the risk of losing access to your domain names
  • high reliability and security that meets New Zealand government requirements.

Website and email hosting are not included. Transferring domain name registration and hosting to SchoolDNS won’t affect your website or email hosting.
