When consultation is needed
Sometimes changes are made by the Minister of Education or us to manage growth or decline in state schools or kura. The school board can also propose changes.
Examples are merging or closing schools, changing the year levels, or making changes to a board’s constitution. Your board will be asked for feedback on what is proposed, and has to consult with your community. We will also consult with other schools that may be affected, and other relevant groups.
This is required by the Education and Training Act 2020.

This presentation has guidance about engaging with schools and communities about proposed changes at school.
State-integrated schools
If changes are proposed to a state-integrated school, the proprietor must be involved in the consultation.
