SELO is for managers and educators at early learning services. SELO is grouped into 2 programmes.

Programme 1: support to meet licensing requirements

Programme 1 provides in-depth professional development to early learning services to help them meet licensing requirements. This may include (but is not limited to) support for:

  • governance and management
  • health and safety
  • Te Whāriki curriculum.

Programme 2: professional learning and development

Professional learning and development (PLD) provides flexible and targeted support to services. This includes support for the areas below.

Inclusive early learning environments

  • Understand Māori and Pacific cultural, identity and language and world views.
  • Support tamariki | children with learning support needs.
  • Understand, recognise and respond to issues of racism, discrimination and bullying.
  • Engage with the community and whānau | families to design and deliver education that better supports the aspirations of Māori and Pacific communities.

Te Whāriki delivery, inclusive of early numeracy and literacy

  • Value the cultural knowledge each whānau and ākonga bring to their education.
  • Support early numeracy and literacy skills.

Te reo and tikanga Māori practices

  • Build capability in te reo Māori and tikanga Māori practices and integrate this into curriculum delivery.

Leadership

Build leadership capability. This may include a particular focus on:

  • Pacific leadership
  • Māori leadership.

Teaching and learner support capability

Strengthen your practice through:

  • developing confidence and competence to teach tamariki | children with learning support needs
  • supporting children’s progress in key areas of learning by engaging with whānau | families.
