Every day – Social services that help New Zealanders thrive

Delivering Social Services Every Day brings together, for the first time, the ways in which education, health, social welfare, housing and justice agencies are working together to improve the lives of all New Zealanders, especially those who, from time to time, need our help the most.

Progress is being made. In education, for example, over 77% of 18 year olds achieved NCEA level 2 or an equivalent in 2012, and just over half of 25-34 year olds held an NCEA Level 4 or equivalent qualification. Raising educational achievement can be life changing. This is because young adults with higher qualifications are more likely to be employed and to have higher incomes than those who do not. Young adults with higher qualifications are also far more likely to be actively engaged in their communities, and are far less likely to be dependent on benefits or involved in youth crime.

Every Day will help

  • school leaders as a guide to the various services that are available to assist them in raising student achievement
  • parents as a guide to agencies they can go to for assistance to support their child’s learning and educational development.
