Halswell Residential College information releases 2016

In July, the Minister of Education Hekia Parata announced that Halswell Residential College in Christchurch would become co-educational from 2017.

Since then, the Ministry has further examined the evidence around residential, co-educational schooling for students with high and complex needs. It will continue to consider all relevant research as it emerges.

This latest examination included looking at questions posed by Salisbury School, a residential special school in Nelson, and at additional research that has emerged since the July announcement.

The decision to grant Halswell Residential College full co-educational status remains in line with current research and best practice.
